This is Aurora Smith, the head of the Noctiluca.
She is a senior, and this is her fourth year with the school newspaper. Aurora is in charge of conducting meetings and the overall production of the Noctiluca. In her spare time, Aurora enjoys reading, listening to music, and spending time outside. Her favorite activity over the summer was attending a forty-five day kayaking trip in the Inside Passage of the Pacific Ocean with six other people! She is excited to take part in AP Literature with Mr. Ramponi this year.
Junior Editor-in-Chief: Meet Brooke Lidbury, the second-in-command of the Noctiluca. She is a sophomore, and this will be her second year in the newspaper. If Aurora is the head of the department, Brooke is her right-hand-woman. She also helps lead meetings and oversees the production of the Noctiluca. Brooke swims on the girls varsity team at North and enjoys participating in the theater department. She is super excited to take Mr. Parker’s Theater Seminar class this year!
Senior Creative Director: Annika Larsen, a senior at North, is in charge of graphics and designing a lot of the awesome visuals you see depicted in the Noctiluca. This is her fourth year participating in the school newspaper. She enjoys reading, writing, and playing the cello; over the summer, she trained to become a camp counselor. This year, she is looking forward to taking AP Calculus and AP Literature.
Junior Creative Director: This is Fern Price, a junior at North. Fern’s job is to help Annika with designing the Noctiluca, and this is their third year participating. In their free time, Fern enjoys crocheting and participating in the arts, including playing the piano and guitar. You can find them singing with the North Choir, and their favorite activity over the summer was visiting family!
Senior Copyeditor: Meet Gabi Stern, the one in charge of reviewing the printed editions of the Noctiluca. She is a senior at North, and this is her fourth year participating in the club. Her favorite hobbies include reading, listening to music, and baking. Over the summer she was able to see the band Wallows in concert.
Junior Copyeditor: Ryan Zhao is a sophomore and has taken part in the Noctiluca for two years. His job is also to edit and review the editions to ensure there are no mistakes. During the summer, his favorite things to do were go to the movies with friends and sleep in until 2 in the afternoon!
Spark Shorts Directors: These two are Charlie Lewis (left) and Jacob McGinn (right). They are in charge of operating the video branch of the Noctiluca which is showcased occasionally on homeroom announcements, but mostly on our Instagram, @anhsspark. They record and edit videos, and assist in the production of other students’ videos. Both are sophomores and going on two years with the Noctiluca. Charlie enjoys participating in the theater department and he loves playing with North’s band. He is excited (and quite nervous) about taking AP Chemistry this year. Jacob participates in cross country and track and plays bass guitar for North’s jazz band.
Digital Director: Melissa Sisto is in charge of the Noctiluca’s social media accounts. She is a senior and this will be her fourth year in the club. Her favorite thing she did over the summer was attend the Youth Governors Conference for Youth in Government, a program hosted by the YMCA in downtown Appleton, in Washington DC.
Photography Coordinator: Meet Stella McGovern, a sophomore and the one who directs the photography unit of the Noctiluca. She attends events, along with others who enjoy photography, and that is where the Noctiluca gets our fabulous pictures that you see in the editions. This is her second year participating, and she enjoys playing volleyball and reading. She is excited to take chemistry this year!
Advisor: This is Mr. Ramponi, an English teacher at North. Every club needs an excellent advisor, and Mr. Ramponi is the one for us! He oversees meetings, helps with production and printing, and offers us advice whenever we need it! Mr. Ramponi teaches AP English Literature, among other things.
