Record-Breaking Flooding Transforms Areas Surrounding The Mediterranean
Spain and Morocco have received 2 years’ worth of rain in just a few weeks, levels not seen in decades. However, both nations have very different outlooks on these circumstances. Despite over 20 deaths in Morocco, the citizens see these floods as a blessing, with small “lakes” now dotting the nation. Drought has been ravaging Morocco, with 2023 being the driest in 40 years. These new lakes provide a water source for citizens, and plant life has been seen growing around the lakes. Aquifers have been seen to be replenishing as well. Spain, however, has not had as much fun. They have experienced the worst flooding disaster in generations the past week, with 158 deaths being counted as of Halloween, and the number is still going up. More than 1,200 rescue workers have been deployed, and the nation is mourning. We give our condolences to all families affected by this tragic disaster.

Mpox Continues To Spread And Ravages Africa
Despite global efforts, the Mpox outbreak continues to spread, with the milder variant being reported in Ghana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mauritius, and Norway, and the more major Clade 1b reported in Germany and the United Kingdom. The disease continues ravaging Central Africa, causing nations to administer a travel warning for the affected regions. As Rwanda grapples with its Mpox outbreak, a new Marburg virus outbreak has also struck it. Nations worldwide have begun producing and distributing vaccines to Africa, but there is still a long way to go.
Iran And The U.S. Are Both Pushing For A Ceasefire As Gaza War Continues To Rage
Last month, Lebanon was thrown into the war in the Middle East, with Israel launching attacks on the terrorist group Hezbollah. Israel has been going back and forth with Hamas and Hezbollah, trading missile barrages, causing numerous civilian deaths across all three nations. Israel recently struck the Palestinian town of Beit Lahia, causing a death toll of upwards of 93 people. Israel’s new front in the north has caused additional challenges, with a recent missile strike from Hezbollah causing 7 Israeli deaths. The U.S., however, has been making substantial progress in drawing up a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, and cooperation between these two countries is improving. Iran has for months been trying hard to prevent confrontation with Israel, continuing its 40-year-long “shadow war,“ where they have been striking each other from behind the scenes. However, a recent Israeli missile strike on Iran has broken this trend, and Iran has threatened retaliation. It’s been a year since Hamas first attacked Israel, and more than 50,000 Palestinians, Israelis, and Lebanese have been killed. It’s only a matter of time before we know if this will expand into an even larger conflict.
