Humans of Appleton North: Mickayla George

“When I was 14, my parents began divorce proceedings that were finalized when I was around 16. I had never referred to my biological father as ‘father’ or even ‘dad’ because he was never around. No one ever knew the man he was behind closed doors. Everyone I knew would say he was really nice or even cool, but when someone hurts you, who everyone else loves, it’s hard to tell others the truth. Even though he was still mostly out of my life, the damage had been done. I developed severe anxiety resulting in missing a lot of school. I ended up in day treatment while I moved from Little Chute to Appleton. On top of having day treatment I had to repeat freshman year. The only things keeping me sane were reading and writing.”
