Letter to the editor: Student who burned flag apologizes to school community

Ryan Jozwiak

Dear Appleton North High School,

My name is Ryan Jozwiak and I am a senior here at Appleton North. Many of you have heard about the events that occurred before the football game against the Kimberly Papermakers. I am responsible for those events. I burned a Papermaker flag at the tailgate in front of many other students. I have been given an opportunity to publicly address my mistake. I have already written a letter to Kimberly. I want to take this opportunity to apologize to my peers for this childish immature action. I realize now that what I did was wrong on many different levels. At the time I thought burning the flag would be a good way to keep our rivalry alive. I know now that it just put North in a very bad light. I would especially and specifically like to apologize to Lightning football players and coaches. It was selfish of me to not think about them and how they would be affected by my choices. Being a leader of a student section comes with a lot of responsibility which I proved I do not have. Lightning football, I apologize for causing so much negative impact on you. Faculty, I would like to apologize to you for making your place of business where you put in so much effort and time to educate us look so poorly. Finally to every student at Appleton North I would like to apologize to you for giving our alma mater such a tainted name. I hope as a school you can forgive me and do your best to give me a chance at earning your respect back.

With sincere apologies,
Ryan Jozwiak
