In their home opener for the 2017 football season, the Appleton North Lightning cruised to a 35-14 win. Running back Will Stewart led the way for North, racking up all five touchdowns on the ground. North started out firing on all cylinders, scoring 14 quick in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Neenah made it close, scoring twice right before half making it 21-14 at the break. After a defensive third quarter where no one came close to the end zone, North was able to run away, no pun intended, with the game as the aforementioned Stewart produced in crunch time with two late scores to seal the deal.

After the game, Stewart had this to say, “I could not have scored five times without my offensive line. It was a great team win, I am very proud of the men up front, without them, I would not have been as successful as I was.”

One of those men on the offensive line who paved the way for Stewart was Zach Fisher. He had this to say about their amazing performance tonight. “It is all about just doing your job and pushing up front as much as you can. Creating holes so Will can do his thing. If we keep working hard, we know Will can get it done, which he did tonight.”

Another player who ignited the offense tonight was wide receiver Adam Zeratsky, who on the first drive of the game made a huge catch to set up the first score of the game. “It felt great, putting your team in a great spot to score a touchdown always feels good.”

North moves to 2-0 on the young season. Up next are the Cardinals of Fon Du Lac. Fondy is always a tough team, and on the road, the challenge significantly increases.
