Participate in the Walk for Suicide Awareness

Maddie Clark, News Editor

Were you aware of the walk held every year in the Fox Cities that helps bring awareness to suicide? The Walk for Suicide Awareness was founded by Barb Bigalke, the Executive Director of the Center for Suicide Awareness which is situated in the Fox Valley. This program was initiated in 2010 in order to educate and bring public awareness to the topic of suicide in the Fox Cities. The major goals of the annual walk are to encourage individuals to talk about suicide with less negativity and to accept help with more positivity. All of the proceeds made during the program are used to help fund the following year’s walk, which in turn contributes to the community becoming further aware of suicide and suicide prevention.

The eighth Annual Walk for Suicide Prevention will take place on Saturday, September 16th, 2017 at the Hydro Park in Kaukauna. Registration takes place the day of at 8:30 A.M. A donation is required for registration but can be as little as 10 dollars. The walk will start at 10:00 A.M. After the walk is completed, Kristen Anderson, a motivational speaker and founder of the Reaching You Ministries, will be sharing her personal experience with depression and suicide. Please go participate in this very inspiring and significant walk in efforts to bring more knowledge to suicide in our society.
