Ahmad Abdel-Azim, Junior Editor-in-Chief

With severe winter weather hitting the Fox Valley area in January and February, the Appleton Area School District has had to cancel multiple days of school. District officials met recently to discuss the changes that must be made to the upcoming school days in an effort to make up instructional minutes. The following changes have been decided upon:

  • High Schools: Beginning on Monday, March 4 and through the end of the school year, 10 minutes will be added to the start of the high school day, and 10 minutes will be added to the end of the day. In regard to North, specifically, school will start at 7:20 a.m. and end at 3:15 p.m.
  • Middle Schools: No changes have been made at this time.
  • Elementary Schools: Beginning on Monday, March 4 and through the end of the school year, 6 minutes will be added to the end of the elementary school day. Thus, all elementary students will be dismissed at 3:22 p.m.
  • Appleton Community 4K: Families will receive specific information pertaining to any changes from the site director soon.
  • Charter schools: Families will receive specific information pertaining to any time changes.

If a 2-hour delay is put into effect in the future, the scheduled May 8 late start will be cancelled. If full school day is cancelled, the scheduled May 8 late start will be cancelled, and the District will extend the school year to June 7 for a full day of school.
